Unit 1 -The ABCs of Art
Art is often called the language of the soul, and Ratna Ma’am, our Visual Arts teacher, has truly helped us connect with it during these three months of the IB program. Although we didn’t cover many techniques, we focused on mastering the details, from glass painting and watercolors to direct observation. Starting with the basics—like holding a brush, mixing washes, and perfecting the water-to-paint ratio—Ratna Ma’am taught us how to work on different materials and paper types. Her guidance helped us gain a solid foundation, emphasizing both technique and creativity. As we completed this unit, I realized we had practiced key ATL skills and IB learner profiles. We communicated through our art, experimented with creative ideas, and researched new techniques to improve. We were open-minded, appreciating different styles of art without judgment, and inquirers, always eager to learn more about various approaches. We also took risks, embracing the possibility of failure as part of the artistic process. As Picasso once said, ‘Inspiration does exist, but it must find you working,’ and this perfectly sums up our journeyMathematics – Sharanya Ajmera

UNIT: The Rights of War and Peace
This unit for us was an IDU unit between L&L and I&S, and the name of the unit was “Rights of War and Peace”.
In L&L, this unit was all about war poetry and the story and factual details behind it, whereas in I&S, the unit was all about learning about the Great War, also known as World War 1. These two disciplines were intertwined through the fact that all the discussions were related to a violent conflict.
A few highlights of this unit were, analysis of war poetry, the introduction of the SWIFT (Symbolisation, Words, Imagery, Form and Theme) method of analysis, the presentation on one of the war poets, the newspaper cover on the Treaty of Versailles and League of Nations, and the SA.
FA 2 for I&S required us to create an aesthetically appropriate newspaper cover with 2-3 articles. This FA encorporated the organisation skill and the skill of producing text which is derived from L&L. The IDU SA, which marked the end to this unit, required all of us to create a final product on any conflict, in the form of any creative piece. The requirements were a planning document in which we documented all our progress including the set timeline and the changes that were added to it, a research document in which we noted down all our learning about the conflict we had chosen, a research report which incorporated all the important information from our research which was to be used in the creative piece as well, and a final product which could be any creative piece. The creative piece had to be relevant to the conflict and have a few factual references conveyed in a creative and engaging manner. This required the skill of research, investigation, development of ideas, and evaluation which are all derived from I&S.
This unit helped me develop and improve upon many skills such as time management, research, investigation, development of ideas, planning ahead, creative and critical thinking, compilation of information and media literacy. This provided me with an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone, be a risk taker, and explore new genres and styles of writing and make them my own.
Visual Art – Shaarvi Agrawal
UNIT: Stamping
For the first Visual Arts unit of this year we began by learning about stamps and the art of stamping. We talked about different types of stamps, how to use stamps and about artists who used/use stamping as their main or primary method of creating art. We researched and investigated one artist and critiqued one of the artworks done by them in the medium of stamping.
Later on we created our own linocuts (linoleum stamps) by carving out designs into small pieces of linoleum with carving tools. Once we were done carving out the stamps, we prepared the oil based ink for the stamping procedure. The colours of ink available were black, white, red and green. We also had a session on stamping with found objects where we went out into the playground and used different natural objects we found to create an art piece.
This unit is an overall immersive and interactive experience. It made us develop new skills like organisation skills as we managed our materials and set goals and strategies to move forward with our pieces. We developed the IB learner profile:- Risk-Taker as we used new materials and worked in a medium we are not familiar with.

UNIT: Microbes in Motion
In our unit on Microbes in Motion, we explored the differences between illnesses caused by bodily malfunctions, like diabetes and heart disease, and those caused by pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. Understanding these distinctions is crucial as we identify various pathogenic microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, and learn how they operate and lead to illness. We also examined how pathogens are transmitted through contact, air, food, water or vectors and discussed the body’s defence mechanisms that protect us from infections.
We also learned about the differences between signs and symptoms, and how to identify and classify them. We gained knowledge about the difference between individual and community health and analysed the importance of community health and how it is individual health, but on a larger scale.
Additionally we also did experiments and analysis that helped us understand disease outbreaks and the effectiveness of public health responses. By focusing on specific infectious diseases, we learned about their causes, symptoms and treatments. Emphasising prevention, we also learned about tips of prevention and the structure of pathogens.
This unit gave us knowledge to make informed health decisions and promote well-being in our communities.

UNIT: Introduction to Web Design
In the first unit of design, we came up with real life examples of the application of animation, as that is the chosen concept for this unit. Afterwards, Ritesh Sir introduced us to the egg drop challenge, in which all the MYP grades competed.
We first had to understand the fragility of the egg and how to keep it intact. Then came the step where we practically implemented our skills and created a stable contraption so that the egg does not fall out of the contraption during the egg drop. We had to make sure that there was protection and cushioning all around the egg so that the egg would not crack, no matter which part came in contact with the surface during the egg drop. While evaluating and modifying our contraptions, we mainly reflected upon factors such as wind resistance and shock absorption.
There have been a few obstacles in my journey to achieving certain goals in this subject, but the effective and enjoyable pedagogy along with the intriguing topics have helped me to overcome all challenges. I also got the opportunity to learn about basic formatting in documents, along with document formatting in context to the design cycle.
In the making of my contraption to protect my egg, I used the skill of knowing and understanding along with the skill of creating and developing a design, whereas, during the documentation for the design project, I was able to develop skills such as organisation, structuring, researching, implementation of skills, development of ideas and providing solutions to problems.

UNIT: La vie en école ( School life)
In the first unit of MYP-3 LA (French), we have learnt and discussed the daily life of a student. We learnt about objects we use in school, like stationary, desks and chairs. We also learnt about the life of Malala Yousafzai. The best activities we did include our Formative Assessments as they really helped us prepare for our Summative Assessment, and one student read a page of the book “The Little Prince” everyday in class which helped us build our vocabulary. We developed our thinking and communication skills through the work we did in class, and the IB Learner Profile attribute we developed was risk-taker as we were challenged to make use of new phrases and verbs in our assignments and assessments.
The activity which helped me progress in the language was our second FA, as the feedback provided by the teacher let me do well in our SA. In this unit, we made use of many new words, verbs and phrases and we also learnt how to introduce ourselves in detail. This can really help me when talking to someone who speaks French or is French.
Mathematics: Shlok Kanjilal D’Costa
Numbers: Discoveries and Development
Science and Math IDL: Siya Chandra Patterns in Motion
This unit was an IDU between math and science. We studied topics such as calculating density and collecting and interpreting data through mathematical representations.
In our Summative Assessment, our task was to create an infographic based on climate issues. We were assigned different topics such as:
- Increased Frequency and Intensity of Heatwaves
- Extreme Weather Events
- Increase in the Level of Greenhouse Gases
- Impact of Rising Temperatures on Wildlife
- Impact of Melting Glaciers on Sea Level Rise
I was given the topic “Impact of Melting Glaciers on Sea Level Rise.” For this project, I conducted interviews and collected responses from students and teachers from our school.
Once I collected all the relevant information, I noticed that most students replied to the questions, saying they dislike going outside and wish it was less hot, whereas the teachers mostly replied by talking about how they never used AC during childhood and used to play outside because there used to be pleasant weather every day.
I researched and found a mathematical representation which proved my data was collected successfully. Then I came up with a conclusion: the high greenhouse gas emissions are leading to climate change, causing the melting of glaciers and resulting in the rise in sea levels. I researched and was able to suggest ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I really enjoyed this unit as I was able to develop new skills such as critical thinking, transferable skills etc.

Comic poetry and limericks are a fun and exciting way to explore poetry! Limericks are a type of poem that follows a specific rhythm and rhyme scheme (AABBA), often telling humorous or silly stories. For example, a limerick might tell of a frog wearing blue shoes, hopping through town with a big smile. When analyzing poems like limericks, we can use tools like STEAL and SWIFT to dig deeper into the meaning. STEAL stands for Speech, Thoughts, Effects, Actions, and Looks, which helps us understand a character’s personality. SWIFT stands for Setting, Weather, Ideas, Feelings, and Tone, guiding us to analyze the poem’s deeper elements.
By using these techniques, we can uncover the creativity behind the words, making poetry even more enjoyable and easier to understand! This has helped us develop the IB Learner Profile of being Knowledgeable and contributed to developing our critical thinking skills.
